Steve Scott Invitational Preview

A big weekend at the Anteater facility awaits.

The two-day meet--named in honor of one of America's greatest milers, Steve Scott, a UC Irvine alum--gets started Friday afternoon with several field events and rolls into the evening with the top sections of the distance races.

Then, on Saturday, UC Irvine alums get together and watch the remaining field events and some great track action. Many of the alums and many other honorable guests will come back to the track on Sunday as the track gets named in honor of longtime coach Vince O'Boyle.

Friday's field events will be highlighted by NCAA All-American Trey Knight (Cal State Northridge) in the hammer. Knight currently has the number two mark in the nation this season. The #1 and #3 javelin throwers in UCI school history, Liam Miksic and Logan Peyton, respectively, will be joined by two other Big West throwers, Kyle Wood (UC San Diego) and Elliott Payne (Long Beach State), as four of the top six throwers in the conference give a preview of the Conference Finals coming in mid May.

Friday's running events will have some great match ups in distance events ranging from the 800 to 5000 meters. The evening will wrap up with Steve Scott's signature event, the Mile. In the men's mile, Latvia's Arturs Medveds (Performance Elite) will try to become the first from his country to go under four minutes, adding to his national records.

On Saturday, it's all about the sprints as many of the top Big West teams line up along with South Dakota State, Concordia and several open athletes.

Then, as mentioned, on Sunday alumni, fellow coaches, admin and several other dignitaries will be on hand for the naming of the track in honor of Vince O'Boyle.
