The Big West to Send 116 Qualifiers to NCAA Track & Field Championships First Round

The participants for the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round competitions have been announced and The Big West had 116 qualifiers. The NCAA West First Round will be held May 28-31 at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium. The announcement was made Thursday on NCAA.com.

The 116 overall qualifiers are an improvement from 84 last season, 62 from 2023, 47 from 2022, and 41 from 2021. Cal State Fullerton had the most qualifiers on both sides with a total of 21, with 17 on the men’s side and four on the women’s side. UC Irvine had 13 qualifiers for women’s events   

Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective events earn a berth into the NCAA West First Rounds. In addition, the best 24 relays times advance to the NCAA preliminaries. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the Championships. Athletes and relay teams at the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships, held June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. 

The Big West had three qualifiers in the multi-events with Long Beach State’s Claudine Raud-Gumiel (heptathlon), UC Santa Barbara’s Brad Thomas (decathlon) and Long Beach State’s Ryan Gregory (decathlon), who are not included in the total of 116.
