COLLEGE STATION, Texas (June 1, 2025) -- The Big West had one national qualifier on the fourth day of the 2025 NCAA Track & Field West Preliminaries, Saturday at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium.
The fourth day of the West Preliminaries is treated as the quarterfinals of the national championships for women’s events, mirroring the men’s format from Friday. The competition is narrowed to 12 athletes in each event that qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships in approximately two weeks at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
UC Irvine’s Zharia Taylor punched a ticket to Eugene in the high jump, tying for ninth place with a clearance of 1.81m/5’11.25”. Lilian Turban of Hawai’i also cleared 1.81m/5’11.25 but came in 19th due to number of jumps attempted throughout the competition.
The Cal State Fullerton 4x100m relay team of Jayde Charlton, Nancy DeMatte, Ashley Odiase and Brooklyn Davis came in 21st overall with a time of 44.83.
Long Beach State’s Rahni Turner (13.21) placed 16th overall in the 100m hurdles.
UC Irvine’s Malia Gay (2:06.10) finished 18th overall in the 800m.
UC Irvine’s Jazzmine Davis (1:00.29) had the 24th fastest time in the 400m hurdles.
Cal Poly’s Tatiana Cornejo (16:22.30) and UC San Diego’s Sylvana Northrop (17:12.80) finished 21st and 45th overall, respectively, in the 5000m.
Tara Wyllie of Hawai’i (31st; 12.62m/41’5”), Cal Poly’s Melody Nwagwu (34th; 12.55m/41’2.25”), UC Santa Barbara’s Kennedy Johnson (37th; 12.46m/40’10.5”) and UC Riverside’s Chelsea Aninyei (42nd; 12.17m/39’11.25”) were participants in the triple jump.
CSUN’s Summer Mosley (50.09m/164’4”) was 35th in the discus.
